Farewell to Wilderness

from The Sleepy Hollow Years by Sleepy Hollow

/

about

Another band composition from the early days that should've been recorded with the EP. Our bassist Dan Castiel wrote the lyrics and used to sing it, but he was gone by the time we recorded it for Legend, so I ended up singing it. I thought it was one of my better vocals, but it would've been nice to have Dan on it like it was written. I did come up with the title, if I recall correctly (as I did for Out of the Mist, another band composition that Dan did lyrics and vocals for, but that we recorded with Joe and myself on vocals for Legend). Joe ended up doing a synth solo at the end where my guitar solo used to go. Bastard! It does sound good, though.

One of my favorite tracks from the original lineup.

lyrics

Mountain and forest filled with peace
This sanctuary I once knew
In this place Bird-song will cease
For builder's dreams and highways through.

Chorus:
Earth bleeds
To feed
Your need
For greed

Why lakes must die and trees must fall
I don't understand I'll never know
More fast food another mall
So that their bank accounts can grow.

Chorus:
Earth bleeds
To feed
Your need
For greed
